A strut is more than just a walk—it’s a bold, expressive movement that says, “I know who I am, and I’m proud of it.” When someone struts, they’re not just moving through space—they’re taking up space with confidence, joy, and presence. Strutting connects deeply to self-confidence because it’s rooted in self-expression. It’s the physical embodiment of saying: “This is me, and I’m okay with standing out.” Whether it’s a sway in your step, a tilt of your head, or a sparkle in your eyes, a strut shows the world you’re comfortable being yourself. A great way to summarize the picture book Strum and The Wild Turkeys could be Strum finds his strut.

Finding your strut ties to belonging, because when you strut your stuff unapologetically, you give others permission to do the same. That is what seems to resonates most with kids, parents, and teachers when they read and explore the themes of Strum and The Wild Turkeys and why I continue to celebrate this book and character. Strum represents anyone who struggles with being different. He write the song "Different is Good" in response to his struggle of feeling separated from his siblings and, once he embraced what makes him unique, he found his voice and his flock in a band of wild turkeys called The Wild Turkeys. This Strum Day, celebrate by adding your song to the playlist. All the family friendly songs you share were be added to the Strum Day Soundtrack 25 and was released on April 30th on Spotify.

In a community where everyone can move to their own rhythm, we create a space where differences aren’t just accepted—they’re celebrated. That why I try to create in my classroom and in with my family, and music is always a part of that. What better way to celebrate Strum Day 2025 than by building a setlist with the rhythms that celebrate who you are and help you rock your differences!  Send us your song or record yourself strutting to your favourite soundtrack. As Strum sings: Different is good. Be yourself, You don't have to look like, talk like, walk like anybody else.
