Stacie Goldin is an educational consultant for kids’ media across all platforms. She is also the director of marketing for a series of businesses as well as a mindful, movement, meditation and yoga instructor. Stacie had once believed she would be a classroom teacher forever, “...the single career that would take me from her 20s up to retirement.” Little did she know that many different opportunities would come her way. Being a lifelong learner, she embraced them all wholeheartedly, and they’ve guided her gently towards her current journey.

After Stacie first left the classroom, she worked for Vector Spark and then for TVO. Vector Spark was something she explored during her maternity leave with her first daughter. She put together a series of lessons plans for an on-line gaming platform catering to ages 9-12 about substance use and abuse and healthy eating. Her goal was circumventing baby brain, but after a year and a half, Stacie was hooked on teaching en mass. After that company and catalyst went under, Stacie looked for other ways to contribute to kid’s media, so she began looking out for educational consulting jobs and freelancing in kids’ media. Stacie ended up getting a job at TVO as the in-house educator for TVO Kids. From 2002-2015, she worked on their tv shows for preschool and school age children, their website and their

TVO parent’s section. She also produced a series called Homework Zone across Math, Science and Language Curriculum strands to support learning using lessons on a Smartboard.

Stacie later discover Yin Yoga. “I love the fact that doors open, and I love going through them and seeing what’s on the other side.” Stacie has always loved yoga, but when she was introduced to a form of yoga she didn’t know, she felt she had “come home”. She was overcome and immediately signed up for classes. She now has her Yin certification and teaches at Indigo Yoga and Sante Spa. A few weeks ago, Stacie was sitting in her class about to begin, and she shared a personal story about how Yin Yoga has impacted her life. She suddenly became very emotional about it, realizing her deep gratitude for where she is and all that she gets to do in her life.

Stacie has recently been asked to lead a series of sessions with a group of Grade 6 students to help them develop their mindfulness and meditation skills, which she is excited about and hopes that this will be the first of many similar opportunities.

Stacie responded joyfully when asked about preparing for her guest appearance on The Personal Playlist Podcast, chortling her response. She said that she was most challenged by the first and last songs. “I really wanted to do justice to some of my favourite artists… but I think I made the right choice for me in the end because it does encapsulate so many things about me…”

Stacie’s nostalgic song is one that she listened to on her record player. Each month, her father would move the record player to one of his 4 daughters’ rooms, and this was her month. Her father, who was was really into music, had just bought this album. She listened to this album over and over again with her huge 1970’s headphones, so she could learn every word and subtleties of the song. “It reminds me of tenacity and perseverance and the love of learning, and the love of getting something right and working at it until you get it right. It also reminds me of my family and how music was a huge part of our lives.” Here is Dreams by Fleetwood Mac:

Stacie’s identity song was the one she had the least trouble choosing. This song quickly became her muse. She discovered it in 2014, just before she decided to leave TVO. This instrumental was instrumental in helping her come to that pivotal decision. She was driving a 2000 Sienna, and it had a cassette player. She was listening to some bootleg Grateful Dead tapes in the only place she could still listen to them. “At the end of one of the Dead sets, I realized that… it had actual been recorded over a Stevie Ray Vaughan concert in Alpine Valley.” This was Stevie Ray’s last song at his last concert before he died, and it’s the only other song on this tape. “At the beginning of the song he says something like: This song goes out to anybody who’s suffering for any reason, may they find some peace soon...” It has so many nuances for Stacie, and it’s simplicity is its complexity. “I used to listen to it 3, 4 times a day, and every time I listed to it, I found something new.” There were many themes that Stacie saw in this song including collaboration, beauty and art. Stacie loves that you can have different emotional responses to the song, each feeling contributing to the overall experience. Here is Riviera Paradise by Stevie Ray Vaughan

Stacie’s pick-me-up song comes from a film that she saw in the theatres. It was the first movie that she was allowed to see without her parents and, although much of the film shocked her, this song was always about freeing yourself to go for it. The intro to the song is a famous spoken introduction, and she chose it because she wanted to pay homage to “her little purple man”. She has always loved his music, but when she thinks about inspiration, she thinks that this song helps. Stacie shared that life is not that serious and it’s short, so we shouldn't over think things and you should just do them, instead. Here’s the hit song from the film Purple Rain, Prince’s Let’s Go Crazy:

Stacie said that she enjoyed recording her P3. “It’s the combination of all of the underlying messages in these songs that brought me to what I do now. The fact that I freelance from home….I get to work with really talented writers and producers, and I get to do it with my cat and my dog around me, and be there for my family.” Stacie is so appreciative of all of the pieces of work that she gets to do as well as the various ways she has been able to tap into and build her skills in her many different areas of interest. Stacie works in marketing strategy, social media, educational consulting and teaches yoga.
